CITIZENSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS
Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) helps youths understand how their actions make a difference.
CWF is held each summer in Washington, D.C. It uses our nation's capital as a classroom for civic responsibility, government operations and current issues.
This unique five day 4-H youth program combines workshops, operational simulations, educational field trips and professional consultations.
Topic highlights include youth issues, the U.S. Constitution and the federal government.
NATONAL 4-H CONGRESS
National 4-H Congress recognizes and promotes excellence in 4-H, held in Atlanta, Georgia each November. Those attending enjoy workshops, cultural events, community service projects and sightseeing.
Delegates
Idaho usually sends 10 to 15 delegates. Applicants must have passed their 14th birthday, but not their 19th birthday, on Jan. 1 of the program year. They cannot have attended National 4-H Congress.
Costs
Funding may offset some costs, but delegates must expect to pay $500 to $800 depending on travel fees.
Application Process
Idaho's 4-H applicants must submit National 4-H Congress Applications through 4-H online portal.
KNOW YOUR GOVERNMENT
KYG is held each Presidents Day weekend in Boise while the legislature is in session.
The conference is designed for youth in grades eight to nine to:
- Learn how state government decision-making works.
- Influence state government.
- Learn how the state judicial system works.
- Find out how cases are brought to court.
- Observe the legislative process in action.
- Share ideas with legislators, judges and other elected officials.
- Have breakfast with legislators and judges.
- Meet teens from across the state.
The KYG Conference is offered for 8th and 9th grade 4-H youth interested in learning more about our government and how it works. This year, the 2024 KYG Conference will be held at the Boise Center and the Capitol.
Delegates and chaperones are required to provide their own transportation to and from the district bus stop locations. COVID safety measures will be followed in accordance with the University of Idaho policy at the time. The registration fee is $225 for delegates and $175 for Steering Committee members and chaperones. Attendees will register through Zsuite and must be enrolled in 4-H for the current year.
Details about the conference will be made available with a link to a OneDrive folder after registration. If you have questions regarding the KYG Conference, please contact Mike Knutz at mknutz@uidaho.edu.
AMBASSADORS
The Ambassador program mission — 4-H Ambassadors are youth leaders who promote 4-H using their skills, knowledge and leadership abilities. 4-H Ambassador strengthens 4-H through education, recruitment and public relations.
We recognize knowledgeable and prepared older 4-H members as the best spokespersons for 4-H. The public and key people see, hear and appreciate the success of youth members doing excellent work. Nothing supports 4-H youth development better than this visibility.
STATE TEEN ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE (STAC)
The Idaho 4-H State Teen Association Convention (STAC) program mission — The Idaho 4-H State Teen Association Convention is an opportunity for youth to experience college life, explore career opportunities and prepare for a lifetime of success with other Idaho teens.
Both 4-H and non 4-H youth are provided the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities, including:
- Educational workshops
- Community and campus tours
- Service learning projects
